Cross Country Men Take Seventh in Red Flash Invitational

09/21/05 -- The Blackbirds participated in the Red Flash Invitational hosted by Saint Francis University (PA) on Saturday, September 17 with the Men’s team placing seventh out of 12 in the 8K event. Junior Craig Cocchio (Windsor, Ontario/Vincent Massey Sec) led LIU with a time of 27:53 taking 16th followed by Gerardo Calixto (28:30) and Steve Mc Elligott (28:53). Rounding out the Blackbirds’ performance was newcomer Edwin Martinez and Senior Igdalias Mendez, both clocking in at 30:09.

The women’s team finished 12th out of 12 teams in the 5k run scoring 318 points. Senior Nicole Lopez (bio) came in 72nd with a time of 23:19. Other top finishers were Jaime Smith (23:36), Crystal Strachan (24:38), and Temi Akojie (24:59).

LIU travels to the Bronx for Iona’s Meet of Champions Saturday, September 24.
