Blackbirds Compete at Aggie Relays in Greensboro, N.C.

 

3/26/05 --The Long Island University track and field program competed at the Aggie Relays hosted by North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, NC this past weekend.All-American Bryan Steele (Gaithersburg, Md.) placed first in the 400-meter dash (47.65) and 400-meter hurdles (52.28).

Junior Leslie Tyrell (Brooklyn, NY) finished the 400 in 51.40 followed by Micah Nation with a time of 52.09. Roshawn Aberdeen (Brentwood, NY) and Rodney Daniel (Brooklyn, NY) participated in the 400-meter hurdles. Aberdeen crossed the line in 55.70; Daniel finished in 59.85.

Three Blackbirds competed in the 800-meter run with Igdalias Mendez (Puerto Rico) taking 12th with a time of 1:57.88. Edwin Martinez (Bronx, NY) and Kelechuku Okoji (Jersey City, NJ) finished in 1:58.72 and 2:02.13, respectively. Junior Dwayne Jolly (Gaithersburg, Md.) recorded a 12.90 meter leap in the triple jump.

On the women’s side, Shaneqwa Warren (Roselle, NJ) claimed third in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1:03.72. Newcomer Heather Patton (Bowie, Md.) registered a 1.57 meter fly in the high jump and 5.25 meter leap in the long jump. Senior Shayla Wallace (Sumter, SC) stopped the clock at 2:26.06 in the 800-meter run.

Sophomore Aisha Thomas (Jefferson, Mo.) paced LIU in the 400-meter dash. She finished in 8th place with a time of 57.55. Transfer student Leslie Conley (Baltimore, Md.) crossed the line in 58.36. Seniors Temi Akojie (Largo, Md.) and Jaimie Smith Burtonsville, Md.) ran the 400 in 59.28 and 59.43, respectively. Freshman Tavia Burke (Kingston, Jamaica) finished the 100-meter dash in 12.65.
