Steele and Hillian Top Armory Record at Fordham Invite

 

01/6/06- Long Island University’s track and field program performed solidly in the Fordham Indoor Track Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Armory. The highlight of the evening was senior Brian Steele (Gaithersburg, Md.) shattering the Armory’s 500-meter record with a blistering time of 1:02.8. Steele also set a school record with the performance and earned top male performer honors.

Classmate Michael Hillian (Voorhees, N.J.) claimed second place in the event, also breaking the record (1:02.48) With their impressive times, both runners qualified for the IC4A Meet in March.

The Men’s 4x400-meter relay team claimed first, clocking in at 3:14. Senior Craig Cocchio (Windsor, Ontario) placed third in the 3000-meter run (8:44.4). Marlon Martin also took third in the 60-meter dash.

On the women’s side, the Blackbirds’ 4x400 meter relay team secured third place with a time of 3:54.43. Sophomore Aisha Thomas (Jefferson City, Mo.) finished fifth in the 400-meter dash clocking 58.51, followed by Temi Akojie (Largo, Md.).
LIU travels to Albany for the Great Dane Classic on Jan. 20.
