Track and Field Competes in the NYC Gotham Cup

 

1/13/06 -- Long Island University track and field program continued its indoor season this past weekend competing in the Gotham Cup in New York City.

Newcomer Shavar Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica) took seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.94. Junior Micah Nation (Brooklyn, N.Y.) topped his heat, clocking in a 50.38 in the 400-meter dash

. Classmate Craig Cocchio (Windsor, Ontario) placed seventh in the 1000-meter run (2:32.94). The 4x400 meter relay team finished eighth, crossing the line in 3:22.81.

On the women’s side, seniors Temi Akojie (Largo, Md.) and Jaime Smith (Burtonsville, Md.) closed the 800-meter run with times of 2:23.52 and 2:23.67, respectively. Sophomore Aisha Thomas (Jefferson City, Mo) took seventh place in the 60-meter dash, stopping the clock at 7.81 seconds

. The distance medley team finished with a time of 13:45.59 and freshman Heather Patton (Bowie, Md.) recorded a jump of 10.96 meters in the triple jump.

The Blackbirds will compete at the Great Dane Classic hosted by the University of Albany on Friday, January 20th at the Armory.
