Track and Field Competes at ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships

5/13/06 --The Long Island University track and field program competed at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J. on Saturday. The men’s 4x100-meter relay team finished in second place with a time of 40.83, qualifying for the finals on Sunday.

Senior Jeremy Bascom (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took fifth in the 100-meter dash, stopping the clock at 10.76 and earning the right to participate in the IC4A finals. The men’s 4x400-meter relay team of seniors Roshawn Aberdeen (Brentwood, N.Y.), All-American Bryan Steele (Gaithersburg, Md.), Michael Hillian (Voorhees, N.J.) and Leslie Tyrell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) advanced to the finals with a fifth place performance, clocking in at 3:11.75.

On the women’s side, the 4x100-meter relay team of Eva Terry (Germantown, Md.), Northeast Conference Champion Aisha Thomas (Jefferson City, Mo.), Tavia Burke (St. Catherine, Jamaica) and Chioma Ukpai (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) posted a 47.50 time to participate in the ECAC finals on Sunday.

Senior Jaimie Smith (Burtonsville, Md.) finished the 800-meter run in 2:15.20 to end a stellar career. Smith won the NEC 800-meter title and helped the 4x400-meter relay team to a first place finish last week at the conference championships. The 4x400-meter relay team crossed the line in 3:52.42.

The Blackbirds will continue competition on Sunday, May 14 in Princeton, N.J.
