Cross Country Competes at Iona Meet of Champions

10/1/06 -- The Long Island University cross country teams competed in the 12th Annual Br. 'Paddy' Doyle/Iona College Meet of Champions on Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx. The yearly event features some of the top runners on the East Coast.

Freshman Aniecia Williams was the top Blackbird finisher on the women's side. The first-year runner crossed with a time of 26:03.06. Junior Crista Strachan was two runners behind Williams with a time of 26:23.1

Sophomore Heather Wolfe clocked a time of 26:24.2.

For the men, junior Gerardo Calixto was the team's highest finisher with a time of 26:46.3. Graduate student Steve McElligott was five runners behind his teammate, crossing in 27:00.4.

LIU returns to action next Friday at Van Cortlandt Park when they compete at the Metropolitan Championship.
