Cross Country Takes Part in Metropolitan Championships

10/6/06 -- The Long Island University women’s cross country team finished 12th at the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park. Aniecia Williams (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) was the Blackbirds’ top finisher, taking 73rd place with a 21:22 finish.

Crista Strachan (Grand Bahama, Bahamas) finished 80th with a time of 21:46. Heather Wolfe (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) crossed the finish line at 22:27, while teammate Leslie Conley (Baltimore, Md.) finished in 22:36. Qiana Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (24:29) and Crystal Strachen (Grand Bahama, Bahamas) (24:41) rounded out the Long Island squad.

On the men’s side, Long Island saw only three athletes compete. Gerardo Calixto (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the top Blackbird finisher, crossing the finish line in 76th place at 27:32.0. Dan Renahan (Corham, N.Y.) turned in a time of 28:17.9, while Dwayne Allen finished in 33:35.3.

The Blackbirds will return to action on Oct. 14 at the Albany Great Dane Invitational.
