senior Bryan Steele (Gaithersburg, Md.) qualified for
the NCAA 400-meter
hurdles semifinals on Thursday, June 8 in Sacramento
wining his heat, stopping the clock at 50.30.
Steele, named Northeast District
Division I Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and
Field and Cross
Country Association,
finished a whopping 27 seconds ahead of Washington’s Shane
Charles. He posted first place showings in the 400-meter hurdles
at the Penn Relays, Northeast Conference Championships and the
NCAA East Regionals. Steele also helped the 4x100-meter relay
team to an ECAC crown.
One of the most prolific runners in school history, he is an
eight-time All-NEC performer and was dubbed Long Island University
Male Athlete of the Year for the second time this year (2004,
2006).
Classmate Michael Hillian (Voorhees, N.J.) advanced to the
400-meter dash semifinals on Wednesday, June 7 with a time
of 46.37.
Both events take place this evening at the A.G. Spanos Sports
Complex on the Campus of Sacramento State. The 400-meter dash
is at 5:35 p.m. PDT and the 400-meter hurdles will start at 6:20
p.m. PDT.
The finals for both the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles
take place on Saturday, June 10
