Women's Cross Country Wins NJIT Classic

9/17/06 -- The Long Island University women’s cross country team captured the team victory at the NJIT Classic, with four Blackbirds finishing in the top 10. Freshman Anecia Williams (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) finished second with a time of 21:36, while teammate junior Crista Strachan (Grand Bahama, Bahamas) took third place, finishing in 21:50.

Rounding out the quartet of Blackbirds in the top 10 were fourth-place-finishing junior Heather Wolfe (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.), who crossed the finish line at 22:06, and classmate Leslie Conley (Baltimore, Md.), who took sixth with a 22:35 finish.

On the men’s side, senior Steven McElligot (Montreal, Quebec) was Long Island’s top finisher, placing second with a time of 27:29. Teammates Gerardo Calixto (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Daniel Renahan (Coram, N.Y.) finished third and eighth, respectively.

The Blackbirds will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Iona Meet of Champions.
