-- The Long Island University Track and Field program
competed at the FDU Patch Dual Meet on Sunday, December 12
in Hackensack, N.J.
Sophomore Aisha Thomas (Jefferson City, Mo.) took first in the
300-meter dash, stopping the clock at 41.20. Seniors Jaimie Smith,
Temi Akojie, Nichole Lopez and Shayla Wallace competed in the
600-meter run. Smith captures first place with a time of 1:38.70,
followed by Akojie in the second position.
Lopez won the 1000-meter run, crossing the line in 3:32.00 and
Wallace closed in 3:34.00. Transfer-student Qiana Smith (Brooklyn,
N.Y.) ran the 55-meter hurdles in 11.50, taking second place.
The 4x400-meter relay team captured first place (4:01.10) and
the 4x200-meter relay team posted a second place finish with
a time of 1:50.20.
Newcomer Robyn Hamilton registered a 5.78 meter throw in the
shot put, earning third place.
On the Men’s side, Andre Marcano (Trinidad &Tobago)
ran the 55-meter dash in 6.50, taking first. Junior De Wayne
Jolly (Gaithersburg, Md.) tied for second, crossing the line
in 6.60.
Micah Nation (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Michael Hillian (Voorhees,
N.J.) finished the 300-meter dash in 37.00, taking first and
second places, respectively. Freshman Shavar Clarke (Kingston,
Jamaica) clocked in at 37.50.
Senior Craig Cocchio (WindsLong
Island University track and field program competed in the New
Balance NYU Fastrack Invitational on Friday, February 24.
Freshman Andre Marcano (Trinidad and Tobago) finished the 60-meter
dash with a time of 7.12. Rodney Daniel (Brooklyn, N.Y.) clocked
in at 50.46 in the 400-meter dash, trailed by classmates Leslie
Tyrell (50.98) and Roshawn Aberdeen (52.25). Craig Cocchio (Windsor,
Ontario) placed eighth in the 3000-meter run (8:36.12).
Igdalias Mendez (Puerto Rico) and Edwin Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.)
represented LIU in the 1000-meter run. Mendez finished in 2:32.88
and Martinez closed in 2:35.74.
On the women’s side, senior
Eva Terry (Germantown, Md.) claimed fourth and junior Shaneqwa
Warren (Roselle, NJ)
took
sixth in the 200-meter dash with times of 25.89 and 26.61, respectively.
Warren also competed in the 400-meter race, crossing the line
in 59.39. Sophomore Crista Strachan (Grand Bahama, Bahamas) followed
with a time of 1:00.90.
Four Blackbirds placed in the 500-meter run. Janel McFarlane
(Kensington, Md.) led the pack, taking fifth place in 1:16.59.
Transfer-Student Leslie Conley (Baltimore, Md.) finished in 1:17.11,
just ahead of fellow Marylander Temi Akojie (1:17.33). Crystal
Strachan (Grand Bahama, Bahamas) stopped the clock at 1:19.95.
LIU will compete in Boston, Mass. on March 3-4 at the ECAC/IC4A
Championships.

race in 8:56.50, securing first place. Gerardo Calixto (Brooklyn,
N.Y.) took third with a time of 9:25.80 followed by Igdalias
Mendez in fourth place. The 4x400-meter team took first stopping the clock in 3:24.90.
