Smith and Hillian Named NEC Track Athletes of the Week

2/7/06 -- Long Island University seniors Jaimie Smith (Burtonsville, Md.) and Michael Hillian (Voorhees, N.J.) were named the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week today.

Smith qualified for the ECAC Championships, finishing fourth in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:14.73 at the New Balance Invitational. She also established a personal best in the 800, winning her first title and setting a school record in the event at the METRO Championships on Sunday, Feb. 5.

Hillian leads the conference and qualified for the IC4A finals in the 200-meters. He finished the 400 in 47.70 at the New Balance Invitational, just short of an NCAA qualifying time.

The Blackbirds travel to Landover, Md. to compete in the NEC Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb.11. The events will be held at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex. Last year, LIU finished second overall in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
