Bryan Steele (Gaithersburg, Md.) and Jaimie Smith (Burtonsville,
Md.) were named Northeast Conference Track Athletes of the
Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Steele, an All-American, took third place in the 400-meter hurdles
at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas with a season-best time
of 50.63, qualifying for IC4A and NCAA regional competition.
He is ranked fourth in the nation and leads the NEC by five seconds
in the 400-meter hurdles.
The Gaithersburg, Md. native is also
a member of the conference leading 1600-meter relay team that
posted an IC4A qualifying time of 3:11.52 this past weekend.
Smith finished second in the 800-meter run at the Duke Invitational
in Durham, N.C. She posted a time of 2:15.35, topping the NEC
in the event. Smith also recorded a career-best 57.66 in the
400-meter dash, finishing fifth.
The Blackbirds are back in action on Wednesday, April 19 at the
Wagner Quad Meet in Staten Island, N.Y.
