-- The Long Island University Track and Field program split
duties between
the Texas Relays and the Duke Invitational this past weekend.
Senior Bryan Steele (Gaithersburg, Md.) ran the 400 meter hurdles
in 50.63, taking third place and qualifying for IC4A competition.
Shavar Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica) finished the 100-meter dash in
10.84 and senior Jeremy Bascom (Brooklyn, NY) followed, crossing
the line in 10.95. The 4x400-meter relay team also qualified for
IC4A competition with a 3:11.52 time.
In Durham, Marlon Martin (St. Vincent) finished the 100-meter dash
in sixth place, posting a time of 11.04. Andre Marcano (Trinidad & Tobago)
followed stopping the clock at 11.12. Marcano also ran the 200-meter
dash in 23.11.Freshman Shakir Wilford (Atlanta, Ga.) ran the 3000-meter
steeplechase in 10:37.88. Hurdler Roshawn Aberdeen (Brentwood,
NY) ran the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles in 15.59 and
55.99, respectively.
On the women’s side, senior Jaimie Smith (Burtonsville, Md.)
took second place in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:15.35.,
while classmate Temi Akojie (Largo, Md.) stopped the clock at 2:17.74,
earning a sixth place finish at the Duke Invitational in Durham,
N.C.
Freshman Tavia Burke (St. Catherine, Jamaica) and Chioma Ukpai
(Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) finished the seeded 100-meter dash in 12.40
and 12.45, respectively. Burke and Ukpai joined senior Eva Terry
(Germantown, Md.) in the 200-meter dash. Burke paced the Blackbirds,
running the 200 in 25.62. Ukpai finished in 25.81 and Terry closed
in 25.83. Junior Morgan Gantt (Sicklerville, NJ) crossed the line
in 1:06.53 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Sophomore Aisha Thomas (Jefferson City, Mo.) ran the 100-meter
dash in 12.05 at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
The Blackbirds are back in action on Wednesday, April 19 at the
Wagner Quad Meet.
