Blackbirds Compete in UNLV Inviational

4/3/06 -- The Long Island University track and field program competed in the UNLV Invitational at Myron Partridge/Shelia Tarr –Smith Field this past weekend.

Despite heavy winds, Craig Cocchio (Windsor, Ontario) finished the 1500 meter run in 4:10.80, taking fifth place, followed by freshman Edwin Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) with a time of 4:23.13.

Puerto Rico native Igdalias Mendez ran the 400-meter dash in 52.38 and led the Blackbirds in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 1:56.92 and taking third.
Martinez (2:01.46) and Cocchio (2:06.67) finished the 400 in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

LIU will split duties this week, sending athletes to Austin, Texas for the Texas Relays and Durham, N.C. for the Duke Invitatonal.
