Island University cross country teams competed at the Northeast
Conference Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx,
N.Y., with the women’s team finishing 10th and the men
placing 11th in their respective races. Quinnipiac won both
the men’s and women’s team championships.
On the men’s side, the
top Blackbird finisher was senior Steve McElligot (Montreal,
Quebec), who placed 27th
at 27:21.2.
Junior Gerardo Calixto (Brooklyn, N.Y.) came in 40th with a time
of 28:01.9, while freshman Dan Renahan (Coram, N.Y.) took 44th
with a time of 28:16.4.
Junior Heather Wolfe (Honeoye
Falls, N.Y.) was Long Island’s
top female finisher, crossing the finish line at 20:42.5 in 44th
place. Freshman Aniecia Williams (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands)
placed 50th with a time of 20:58.5. Finishing at 21:43.0, junior
Crista Stratchan (Grand Bahama, Bahamas) crossed the line in
63rd place, while classmate Leslie Conley (Baltimore, Md.) finished
in 70th place with a time of 21:55.5. Quinnipiac’s Kristin
Stevens won the women’s championship with a time of 18:14.9.
