Aisha Thomas Garners Second Northeast Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Honor this Season

1/23/07 -- Following a stellar performance over the weekend at the Great Dane Classic, Long Island University junior Aisha Thomas (Jefferson City, Mo.) garnered the Northeast Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award. The award is the second such honor this season for Thomas, who was also recognized on Jan. 2.

Thomas won the unseeded 200-meter dash with a time of 24.83 at the Great Dane Classic. The mark is the second-fastest in the NEC this season, behind her own time of 24.56 at the Fordham Invitational. Thomas also finished fourth in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line at 57.02, also the second-best mark in the NEC this season. Both marks qualified her for the ECAC Championships.

The 1,600-meter relay team took first place at the Great Dane Classic, with Thomas running the third leg. The Blackbirds completed the event with an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:50.25.

The Long Island track and field teams will return to action on Jan. 26-27 at the Terrier Classic.
