-- The Long Island University women’s indoor
track team took home first place in four events at the Fordham
Invitational. Junior Aisha Thomas garnered a first-place finish
in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line at 24.56. Senior Janel
McFarlane won the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.24, while
junior Leslie Conley was the first across the line in the 800-meter
run with a mark of 2:16.42.
The women’s 4x400-meter relay team
was also victorious, finishing with a time of 3:54.13. Freshman
Joyce Atagwe also
turned in an impressive performance, finishing second in the
60-meter dash with a time of 7.86.
The Blackbirds finished seventh as a team;
St. John’s
took home the women’s crown. On the men’s side, Long
Island finished 12th, with Rutgers coming in first.
The men’s 4x400-meter relay team
placed fifth, crossing the line at 3:25.44. In the 200-meter
dash, freshmen Norman Simms
and David Lipford finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Simms
turned in a time of 22.71, while Lipford finished at 22.85.
The Long Island track teams will return to action on Friday,
Jan. 12 at the NYU Invitational.
