Pair of Blackbirds Qualify for IC4As With Performances at Gotham Cup

1/12/07 -- Long Island University track athletes Marlon Martin and Jeremy Alvarez each qualified for the IC4A Championship with their performances at the New Balance NYC Gotham Cup. Martin, a senior, turned in a time of 6.97 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash. His time of 7.08 in the finals garnered a 14th-place finish.

Alvarez, a junior, recorded a 1:04.81 in the 500-meter dash, finishing in 13th place.In other action, senior De Wayne Jolly placed 19th in the triple jump with a leap of 14.02 meters.

On the women’s side, junior Aisha Thomas took sixth in the 60-meter dash with a mark of 7.73. Sophomore Denele DeVerteuil garnered a seventh-place finish in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:17.72. Junior Leslie Conley finished right behind her in eighth with a 1:18.73. Freshman Aniecia Williams finished third in the mile at 2:19.30.
