Thomas Qualfies for ECACs with Performances at Hurricane Invitational

 

3/17/07 -- Junior Aisha Thomas (Jefferson City, Mo.) qualified for the ECAC Championships with a pair of performances at the Hurricane Invitational, hosted by the University of Miami. Thomas achieved qualifying marks in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. In addition, the men's 4x100-meter relay team qualified for the IC4A Championships.

In the 100-meter dash, Thomas crossed the finish line at 12.22, finishing in 15th place. She placed eighth in the 200-meter event with a time of 24.19. In the 800-meter run, freshman Aniecia Williams (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) finished eighth with a time of 2:16.03. Junior Leslie Conley (Baltimore, Md.) placed 16th in the same event with a mark of 2:19.70.

Junior Crystal Strachan (Grand Bahama, Bahamas) took 22nd place in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 57.53, while teammate Janel McFarlane (Kensington, Md.) placed 34th with a time of 58.98. Senior Shaneqwa Warren (Roselle, N.J.) finished 10th in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line at 1:03.60. In the same event, junior Qiana Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed 17th with a time of 1:05.44, while teammate Crista Strachan (Grand Bahama, Bahamas) finished right behind her in 18th with a mark of 1:05.51.

On the men’s side, the 4x100-meter relay team finished in fifth place with an IC4A-qualifying time of 41.94. In the 3,000-meter run, senior Craig Cocchio (Windsor, Ontario) placed 17th with a time of 9:19.75. Steven McElligott (Montreal, Quebec) finished 29th in the 1,500-meter run with a mark of 4:14.04.

Freshman Dan Renahan (Coram, N.Y.) finished the 800-meter run in 1:59.04 to place 26th. In the 200-meter dash, freshman Norman Simms (Upper Marlboro, Md.) took 25th place with a time of 22.38. In the same event, Jeremy Alvarez (Bronx, N.Y.) placed 38th (22.64), Andre Marcano (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) placed 41st (22.78) and Marlon Martin (Kingstown, St. Vincent) placed 44th (23.07).
