2/10/07 -- Long Island University junior Shelby Heggie (Laramie, Wyo.)
won the silver medal in the high jump event on the first day
of action at the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field
Championships. Heggie leapt to a mark of 1.60 meters, finishing
behind Sacred Heart's Brittany Dexter, who had a mark of 1.70
meters.
After the first day of events, Sacred Heart leads the women's competition
with 38 points. Long Island is seventh with eight points. On the
men's side the Blackbirds are in ninth with two points, while Monmouth
leads the pack with 38 points.
The majority of the first-day scoring events came in the field
events, with sprint and distance championships to follow tomorrow.
