Heggie Sets New School Record in High Jump at NYU Fastrack Invitational

 

2/23/07 -- Junior Shelby Heggie (Laramie, Md.) took first place and set a new school record in the high jump with a leap of 1.70 meters as the Long Island University indoor track and field teams competed at the NYU Fastrack Invitational. The mark also qualfied Heggie for the ECAC Championships. The Blackbirds had a strong showing in the 500-meter dash as junior Crystal Stratchan (Grand Bahama, Bahamas) placed second with an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:15.94. Fellow junior Leslie Conley (Baltimore, Md.) finished third (1:16.10) and senior Janel McFarlane (Kensington, Md.) took fourth (1:16.66). Freshman Aniecia Williams (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) finished fourth in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:16.67.

On the men’s side, graduate student Steven McElligott (Montreal, Quebec) finished 14th in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:33.57 and freshman Dan Renahan (Coram, N.Y.) placed 30th in the mile with a time of 4:32.15. The team of Norman Simms (Upper Marlboro, Md.), David Lipford (Upper Marlboro, Md.), Sheldon Goffe (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jeremy Alvarez (Bronx, N.Y.) finished fourth in a 4x400-meter relay with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:19.00. The Blackbirds also took third in the distance medley, turning in a time of 10:36.92.
