Blackbirds Compete at NCAA East Regionals

5/25/07 -- Long Island University sophomore Tavia Burke (St. Catherine, Jamaica) took 27th place in the 100-meter hurdles at the East Regional of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Burke crossed the line at 14.16 in the preliminary race. Hampton's Yvette Lewis placed first with a 13.11

The Blackbirds team of junior Marlon Martin (Kingstown, St. Vincent), sophomore Andre Marcano (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago), sophomore Shavar Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica) and freshman Norman Simms (Upper Marlboro, Md.) fell just short of qualifying for the finals in the 4x100-meter relay. The quartet ran a 40.83 for a 10th-place finish in the prelims. The team from Florida State placed first with a 39.30.

Sophomore Heather Patton (Bowie, Md.) will compete in the triple jump on Saturday, May 25.
