of the Long Island University outdoor track and field team
will travel
to Philadelphia
to
take part in the historic
Penn Relays. The Blackbirds are scheduled to begin competition
on Thursday, April 26.
Long Island is expected to participate in four track events
as well as a pair of field events. The team of Aisha Thomas (Jefferson
City, Mo.), Ashley Veney (Ithaca, N.Y.), Crista Strachan (Grand
Bahama, Bahamas) and Tavia Burke (St. Catherine, Jamaica) will
compete in the College Women 4x100-meter relay, scheduled for
1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Thomas, Crista Strachan, Aniecia Williams
(St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) and Crystal Strachan (Grand Bahama,
Bahamas) will run the College Women 4x400-meter relay on Thursday
at 5:25 p.m.
On the men’s side, the team of Andre
Marcano (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago), Marlon Martin
(Kingstown, St. Vincent),
Norman Simms (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and Shavar Clarke (Kingston,
Jamaica) will compete in the College Men 4x100-meter relay on
Friday, April 27 at 12:20 p.m. Simms, Clarke, Jeremy Alvarez
(Bronx, N.Y.) and Sheldon Goffe (Brooklyn, N.Y.) will run the
College Men 4x400-meter relay on Friday at 4:25 p.m.
In the field events, Shelby Heggie (Laramie,
Wyo.) will compete in the College Women “Eastern” high jump, scheduled
for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Heather Patton (Bowie, Md.) will
compete in the College Women “Eastern” triple jump
at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
