-- Senior Floyd Mayne
(Uniondale, N.Y.) won the 5,000-meter run and several school
records were broken for Long Island during the Great Dane
Classic at the New York
Armory.
Mayne was victorious
in 15:10.98, defeating Nicholas Birosik of Lafayette by almost
17 seconds.
Junior Bryan Steele
(Gaithersburg, Md.) broke a pair of school records, racing
the 200-meter dash in 21.89 seconds and the 500-meter dash
in 1:02.32. He also ran the 55-meter hurdles in 7.74 seconds
and helped the 4x400-meter relay team run in 3:19.25, qualifying
for the IC4A Championships in all four events.
The relay team also
consisted of Antonio Thomas (Baltimore, Md.), fellow senior
Allandro Pierre (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
and junior Leslie Tyrell (Brooklyn, N.Y.).
Sophomore Craig Cocchio (Ontario,
Canada) broke the school record in the mile, running in 4:18.67.
Senior
Shaun Johnson (Ontario, Canada) was second in the 55-meter dash
in 6.39 seconds
and third in the 200-meter
dash
in 22.11
seconds, both IC4A qualifying marks. Senior Jeremy Bascom
(Brooklyn, N.Y.) ran the 55-meter dash in 6.45 seconds and is
headed to IC4As.
Senior N'Kelle Anderson
(Forestville, Md.) finished second in the long jump with a leap
of 5.85 meters to qualify for the ECAC Championships and was
second in the 55-meter
dash in 7.28 seconds. Freshman

Thomas
(Jefferson City, Mo.) closed second in the 200-meter dash
in a personal-best 25.10 seconds.
Senior Chioma Ukpai
(Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) took third in the 55-meter dash in
7.29 seconds
and the women's 4x400-meter relay team clinched an ECAC berth
by running in 3:53.45. The squad was made up of Thomas, Anderson,
sophomore Janel McFarlane (Kensington, Md.) and freshman Crista
Strachan (Grand Bahama, Bahamas).
The Blackbirds return
to action Saturday at the Great Boston Track Club Invitational
