Floyd Mayne captures Central Conn. St. Mini-Meet crown

10/23/04 -- Senior Floyd Mayne (Uniondale, N.Y.) won his first individual title for Long Island at the Central Connecticut State Mini-Meet in New Britain, Conn.

Mayne captured the title by closing the 5,000-meter run in 15:30, 10 seconds ahead of Nils Fischer of Massachusetts. It was the latest in a series of standout meets this year for Mayne, who finished third at the Monmouth Invitational on October 8 and ninth at Quinnipiac on September 24.

The women were led by junior Temi-Tope Akojie (Largo, Md.), who crossed the line 35th in 13:14 over the 3,322-meter course. Junior Shayla Wallace (Fayetteville, N.C.) finished 61st in 14:11.

This was LIU's last warmup before competing at the Northeast Conference Championship, which takes place Saturday in Hamden, Conn.
