-- Senior Floyd Mayne (Uniondale, N.Y.) won his
first individual title for Long Island at the Central Connecticut
State Mini-Meet in New Britain, Conn.
Mayne captured the title by closing
the 5,000-meter run in 15:30, 10 seconds ahead of Nils Fischer
of Massachusetts. It was the latest in a series of standout
meets this year for Mayne, who finished third at the
Monmouth Invitational on October 8 and ninth at Quinnipiac
on September 24.
Also excelling for the Blackbirds
was sophomore Craig Cocchio (Windsor, Ontario), who raced 15:52
to finish in eighth place and senior Ike Cartledge (Forestville,
Md.), who finished 32nd in 16:36.
The women were led by junior Temi-Tope
Akojie (Largo, Md.), who crossed the line 35th in 13:14 over
the 3,322-meter course. Junior Shayla Wallace
(Fayetteville, N.C.) finished 61st in 14:11.
This was LIU's last warmup before competing at
the Northeast Conference Championship, which takes place Saturday
in Hamden, Conn. |
