Bryan Steele Wins 400-Meter Dash; Earns NCAA Regional in Hurdles for Track and Field at the Duke Invitational

 

4/8-9/05 -- Junior Bryan Steele (Gaithersburg, Md.) captured the 400-meter dash and gained an NCAA Regionals berth in the 400-meter hurdles a third straight year for Long Island at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.

Steele won the Section 2 race in the 400-meter dash in 47.71 seconds. He claimed the title by topping Daryl Green of Winthrop, who won Section 1 in 48.06.

Steele earned a regionals berth by stopping the clock in 52.23 in the hurdles. The NCAA East Regionals will take place May 27-28 at Randall's Island in New York.

Also excelling for the Blackbirds was sophomore Chad Miller (Silver Spring, Md.), who closed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 23' 10.25" to qualify for the IC4A Championships. Senior N'Kelle Anderson (Forestville, Md.) took 11th place in the long jump, covering 18' 4.5".

The Blackbirds will compete Friday and Saturday at the Metropolitan Championships in New York. (more)
