-- Long Island's men's
squad grabbed seven first-place finishes and swept all five
dual matches at the Patch Track Meet in Hackensack, N.J.
Among the winners
included senior Ike Cartledge (Forestville, Md.), who ran
the 1,000-meter dash in 2:37.2. Senior Floyd Mayne (Uniondale,
N.Y.), coming off a standout cross country season, raced 8:51
in win the 3,000 meter run and junior Bryan Steele (Gaithersburg,
Md.) took the 55-meter hurdles in 7.7 seconds.
Sophomore DeWayne
Jolly (Gaithersburg, Md.) won the triple jump with a leap of
12.91 meters and the men's
4x200-meter
relay team was first in 1:34.5.
The Blackbirds defeated
Fairleigh Dickinson (57-50), St. Francis-NY (58-42), Saint
Peter's (61-48), Wagner (59-56) and unattached schools (68-1).
The women's team
took the first five spots in the 300 meter-dash, led by Aisha
Thomas (Jefferson City, Mo.) closing in 41.8 seconds. Also
in that group was Crystal Strachan (Freeport, Grand Bahamas)
running

(Freeport, Grand Bahamas) ending in 42.3, senior N'Kelle Anderson
(Forestville, Md.) finishing in 42.4 and sophomore Shaneqwa
Warren (Roselle, N.J.) closing in 43.0.
Junior Dionne Williams
(Brooklyn, N.Y.) won the triple jump with a leap of 11.30 meters.
LIU went 2-3 in
the dual meets with victories over Saint Peter's (43-31) and
unattached schools (47-0).
The Blackbirds return
to action Saturday at the Seton Hall Open in South Orange,
N.J. |
