Track and Field Competes at Hurricane Invitational

 

3/19/05 -- Junior Bryan Steele (Gaithersburg, Md.) captured first in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 53.30 seconds, as Long Island University’s track and field team participated at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla. on Friday and Saturday.

LIU received another strong performance in the 400-meter hurdles from senior Allandro Pierre (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who closed seventh in 54.91 seconds. In the 800-meter run, senior Floyd Mayne (Uniondale, N.Y.) finished seventh with a time of 1:56.75.

Senior Jeremy Bascom (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also had a stellar meet, taking tenth in the 400-meter dash in 50.58 seconds and 11th in the 200-meters in 22.14 seconds.

Pacing the women was junior Jaimie Smith (Burtonsville, Md.) who finished 12th in the 400-meters in 59.35. Freshman Aisha Thomas (Jefferson City, Mo.) closed one spot behind Smith in 59.46 seconds and also took 13th in the 200-meter dash in 24.98 seconds.

The Blackbirds received a strong performance from sophomore Shaneqwa Warren (Roselle, N.J.) who ran the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.20, closing 13th.

LIU will travel to Raleigh N.C. to compete in the Raleigh Relays on March 25-26.
