McFarlane Finishes Second in 500-Meter Dash for Track & Field at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational

2/4-5/05 -- Sophomore Janel McFarlane (Kensington, Md.) finished second in the women's 500-meter dash and freshman Crystal Strachan (Grand Bahama, Bahamas) closed fourth for Long Island during the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the New York Armory.

McFarlane crossed the line in 1:17.35 with Strachan finishing in 1:17.83.

The men's 1,600-meter relay squad also had a second-place showing, stopping the clock in a season-best 3:14.50. The team consisted of senior Antonio Thomas (Baltimore, Md.), junior Bryan Steele (Gaithersburg, Md.), senior Allandro Pierre (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Michael Hillian (Voorhees, N.J.).

Senior Floyd Mayne (Uniondale, N.Y.) closed 11th in the men's 1,000-meter run in 2:31.46. Senior Ike Cartledge (Forestville, Md.) was 19th in the 800-meter dash in 1:54.90.

The Blackbirds will be in action this Saturday and Sunday at the Northeast Conference Championships in Landover, Md. Both squads finished second at last year's indoor championships.
