Mayne repeats as NEC Cross Country Athlete of the Week

10/26/04 -- Senior Floyd Mayne (Uniondale, N.Y.), who has enjoyed a standout season for Long Island, today repeated as Northeast Conference Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week.

Mayne earned the honor after his first individual title at the Central Connecticut State Mini-Meet last Saturday in New Britain, Conn. He closed the 5,000-meter run in 15:30, 10 seconds ahead of Nils Fischer of Massachusetts.

It was the latest in a series of outstanding meets this season for Mayne, who finished third at the Monmouth Invitational on October 8 and ninth at the Quinnipiac Invitational on September 24.

LIU returns to action Saturday at the Northeast Conference Championship in Hamden, Conn. The women’s race begins at 11:00 am and the men’s race starts at 12:00 pm.
