(Jefferson City, Mo.) broke the meet record in the women’s
100-meter dash for Long Island at the Northeast Conference
Outdoor Track & Field
Championships in Emmitsburg, Md.
During her qualifying heat, the
Rookie of the Year at this season’s
NEC Indoor Championships stopped the clock in 11.95 seconds.
She advanced to Sunday’s final thanks to besting the time
of 11.97 seconds set by Danielle Lyons of Monmouth in 2003. Thomas
posted the best qualifying time in the 200-meter dash with a
mark of
24.19
seconds.
Senior N’Kelle Anderson
(Forestville, Md.) qualified for the ECAC Championships with
the best time
in
the 400-meter-hurdle
preliminaries in 1:01.93. Temi-Tope Akojie (Largo, Md.) notched
the best 800-meter-dash time in 2:15.89 and fellow junior Jaimie
Smith (Burtonsville, Md.) was third in 2:18.74.
Senior Floyd Mayne (Uniondale,
N.Y.) did compete in a final, closing third in the 10,000-meter
run in 32:46.17. Junior Michael
Hillian (Voorhees, N.J.) was first in the 400-meter-dash qualifying
in 48.81 seconds and third in the 200-meter-dash preliminaries
in 21.86 seconds.
Senior Shaun Johnson (Ontario, Canada) qualified for the IC4A
Championships with a preliminary-best time of 10.57 seconds in
the 100-meter dash. Senior Jeremy Bascom (Brooklyn, N.Y.) closed
second in the 200-meter-dash qualifying in 21.74 seconds, clinching
a spot at IC4As.
The second and final day of competition begins Sunday at 10:00
