Steele (Gaithersburg, Md.), who qualified for the IC4A Championships
in four events and
broke a school record Sunday for Long Island University,
was rewarded by being named Northeast Conference Men’s
Track Athlete of the Week.
Steele established the new mark during the Great Dane Classic
at the New York Armory, running the 500-meter dash in 1:02.32
to finish second. He bested the mark of 1:02.98 set by former
All-American and current assistant coach Richard James in 2002.
LIU’s Co-Athlete of the Year from
2004 sprinted the 55-meter hurdles in 7.74 seconds, ran the
200-meter dash
in 21.89 seconds
for a personal best and NEC high this season, and helped the
4x400 meter relay squad finish in 3:19.25 to gain a spot at the
IC4A Championships.
The Blackbirds return to action Saturday at the Greater Boston
Track Club Invitational in Cambridge, Mass. |
