(Forestville, Md.) was victorious in the 800-meter dash
for Long Island at the Penn State National Open in University
Park,
Pa.
Cartledge finished
in 1:51.99 to edge Paul Harris of Navy by 0.33 seconds. Junior Bryan Steele
(Gaithersburg, Md.) also enjoyed a solid weekend, closing fourth
in the 200-meter dash
in 21.78 seconds and fifth in the 400-meter dash in 47.96 seconds.
Steele also helped
the 1,600-meter-relay team finish sixth in 3:16.12. He was
teamed with seniors Shaun Johnson (Ontario, Canada), Allandro
Pierre (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Michael Hillian (Voorhees,
N.J.).
Jaimie Smith
(Burtonsville, Md.) ran the 800-meter dash in 2:18.25 and fellow
junior Temi-Tope Akojie (Largo, Md.) closed in 2:19.16.
The women's 1,600-meter-relay
squad had an impressive showing by running in 3:55.77. The team
was comprised of freshmen Crystal Strachan (Grand Bahama, Bahamas),
Crista Strachan (Grand Bahama, Bahamas), Aisha Thomas (Jefferson
City, Mo.) and sophomore Janel McFarlane (Kensington, Md).
