11/1/05--Jade Gold, Lizelle Jackson and Martina Wagner each recorded 10 kills to lead Long Island University to a 3-0 (30-20, 30-15, 30-21,) victory over Sacred Heart Tuesday night in Fairfield, Conn.

Reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Week Martina Wagner (Friedrichshafen, Germany) also notched nine digs. Gold (Jupiter, Fla.) added three service aces and hit .381. LIU held the Pioneers to .010 hitting while earning .236.

The Blackbirds jumped out to a 14-8 lead due to strong service from senior Adela Igniska (Baia Mare, Romania) in game one. Two of Gold’s three aces sealed the first frame for LIU. Jackson took the lead in game two, serving seven straight points, giving the Blackbirds a comfortable 25-11 advantage. She also closed the second game (30-15) with a kill from senior Melanie Fleig (Villingen, Germany).

Game three featured daunting service from Ivana Vasiljevic (Brkco, Bosnia & Herzegovina), who opened the game with six points pushing the Blackbirds to a 6-0 head start. LIU would led by as many as 14 points in the third match, gliding to a 30-21 triumph.

LIU remains undefeated in conference play (7-0). With the win, the Blackbirds improve to 18-11overall. LIU returns to action on Friday when they take on Rhode Island at 5:00 pm in the Schwartz Center.
