Volleyball falls to Fairfield, 3-0; Igniska Named to All-Tournament Team

9/24/05 -- Senior Lizelle Jackson (Palmdale, Calif.) posted her 10th double-double of the season (11 kills, 14 digs), but Long Island was unable to overtake the host Stags of Fairfield in the finale of the Fairfield Invitational on Saturday night. The 3-0 (30-19, 30-28, 30-27) gave the Blackbirds third place in the two-day tournament.

Opposite Adela Igniska (Baia Mare, Romania) was named to the all-tournament team. The senior recorded a .291 hitting percentage for the tournament, and tallied 10 digs in the match against Fairfield.

Long Island had difficulty penetrating a stiff Stags defense all night, as they hit .168 on the match. Martina Wagner (Friedrichshafen, Germany) led the Blackbirds with 17 kills. Fairfield was led by Lindsey Lee, who notched a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs.

The Blackbirds look to rebound next weekend as they host the Courtyard by Marriott LIU Classic. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Northern Colorado, Iona and Florida Atlantic will compete in this two-day event beginning on Friday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. Long Island faces Texas A&M-CC at 3 p.m.
