09/09/05 -- Sophomore Martina Wagner (Friedrichshafen, Germany) and senior Lizelle Jackson (Palmdale, Calif.) dominated up front as Long Island cruised to a 3-0 (30-27, 30-18, 30-25) triumph over George Washington in the opener of the Georgia Tech Renaissance Invitational.

Wagner paced the Blackbird attack with 16 kills and 12 digs to record her fifth double-double of the season. Jackson also notched a double-double, finishing with 11 kills and 12 digs.

The story of the match, however, was LIU’s strong defense performance, as they limited the Colonials’ offense to a .147 hitting percentage, including a .105 percentage in game three.

Senior setter Ivana Vasiljevic (Brcko, Bosnia & Herzegovinia) also had a strong game for Long Island, totalling 38 assists.

The Blackbirds continue play in the Atlanta, Ga. tournament this evening, facing the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky at 5 p.m.
