12/3/05 -- Long Island saw its season come to a close on Saturday evening, falling to host Penn State, 3-0 (30-11, 30-27, 30-8) in the second round of the 2005 NCAA women's volleyball championships.

The Blackbirds were led by sophomore Martina Wagner (Friedrichshafen, Germany) with eight kills and senior Lizelle Jackson (Palmdale, Calif.) with seven. Graduate setter Ivana Vasiljevic (Brcko, Bosnia & Herzegovina) dished out 23 assists as Jackson and Wagner each posted eight digs and two blocks, along with senior Weronika Swiatczak (Lodz, Poland).

LIU committed 30 errors while recording just 26 total kills in the three contests.

LIU finishes its season with a 26-14 mark and became the first volleyball team in Northeast Conference history to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Penn State advances to face Tennessee in the NCAA Regional Semifinal match next weekend.
