10/29/05-- Long Island picked up its third straight victory Saturday afternoon, sweeping Quinnipiac, 3-0 (30-28, 31-20, 30-20) in the Schwartz Center. The Blackbirds improve to 17-11 on the season and 6-0 in the Northeast Conference.
LIU has yet to drop a game in conference play (18-0).

Sophomore Martina Wagner (Friedrichshafen, Germany) had another dazzling performance, recording 11 kills, seven digs, and five blocks. Senior Lizelle Jackson (Palmdale, Calif.) tallied 11 kills and hit .556 in the win. Classmate Adela Igniska (Baia Mare, Romania) notched eight kills, five digs and four blocks.

Four consecutive service points from Ivana Vasiljevic (Brcko, Bosnia & Herzegovina) pushed the Blackbirds to a 6-2 lead in game one. The Bobcats fell 30-28 despite out-hitting LIU, .200 to .189

Senior Weronika Swiatczak played in her just her second game this season after returning from injury. The Lodz, Poland middle blocker served six straight points in the second game, including two aces and two kills by Wagner. LIU led by as many as nine points and closed the match with a service error from Quinnipiac’s Amoi Alawoya.

LIU held the Bobcats to a negative hitting percentage in game three (-.065). It was the third time this season the Blackbirds have kept their opponent in negative hitting. Quinnipiac tied the game at 11 but could could get no closer. Jackson served five successive points, taking a 25-17 lead en route to the 30-20 win.

The Blackbirds travel to Sacred Heart, Tuesday Oct. 1 in hopes of extending their conference win streak to seven.
