10/16/05 -- Sophomore Trevon Dyson (Rock Hill, S.C.) had 13 kills and hit .478 as Long Island University captured its second straight victory, a 3-0 (30-21, 30-25, 30-18) win over Robert Morris in college women’s volleyball action on Sunday afternoon at Schwartz Center. The triumph is the Blackbirds sixth in the past seven games.

Jade Gold (Jupiter, Fla.) added 11 kills and five blocks. In addition, the senior posted a season-best .524 hitting percentage. Classmate Lizelle Jackson (Palmdale, Calif.) continued her stellar season, recording her 18th contest with double-digit kills (11) while adding 14 digs.

The contest was a rematch of the 2004 NEC Tournament championship game in which LIU upset the top-seeded Colonials to capture the league title and an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

The Blackbirds (12-11, 2-0 NEC) sprinted to a 24-14 advantage in game one. The Colonials (9-11, 1-1 NEC) closed to 28-21 following a kill from Janette Stambaugh. Two RMU errors would decide the contest and propel LIU to the 30-21 triumph. The Blackbirds hit an imposing .455 in the first showing.

The visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second game. It would not last long, however, as the Blackbirds struck for the next four points to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Holding onto a 16-13 advantage, LIU reeled off eight straight points -behind the strong service of Jackson, three kills from Gold and three RMU miscues – to take a 24-13 lead. The Colonials cut the lead to three late (28-25), but could get no closer as LIU closed with a 30-25 win.

The Blackbirds- en route to the 3-0 sweep - took command of game three early, jumping to an impressive 20-7 lead following a kill from Dyson. They easily won, posting a 30-18 victory.

LIU steps out of league play to entertain Columbia on Tuesday, October 18. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. The Blackbirds defeated the Lions earlier this season, 3-0, in the Fairfield Invitational.
