9/17/05 -- Senior Lizelle Jackson (Palmdale, Calif.) led three Blackbirds in double-digit kills with 26, and recorded her second double-double of the tournament as Long Island defeated Weber State, 3-1 (30-23, 31-29, 39-41, 30-22), in second day action of the Courtyard by Marriott Blackbird Classic.

Setter Ivana Vasiljevic (Brcko, Bosnia & Herzegovina) added 53 assists, and Martina Wagner also added a double-double (18 kills, 12 digs) as LIU hit .261 for the match.

After the Blackbirds took the first two games, the third game turned into a slugfest as both teams had multiple chances to win. Tied at 29-29, a kill by Jackson gave Long Island match point. After a timeout by the Wildcats, freshman Chelsea Bair came up big for Weber with a kill to knot the game, 30-30. Bair recorded a double-double of her own in the match, notching 12 kills and 19 digs.

The game would continue back and forth before two hitting errors on Long Island gave Weber State the marathon game.

LIU came back fighting in the fourth game. After dropping the first four points, the Blackbirds rattled off 12 of the next 16, led by five kills and one service ace by Wagner, to take a 12-8 lead. It was a lead LIU would never relinquish, as they went on to a four-game victory.

In Saturday's second match, Bowling Green swept Georgia Southern, 3-0 (30-25, 30-28, 30-26).

The two-day tournament concludes this afternoon as Weber State faces Bowling Green at 3 p.m., immediately followed by Long Island versus Georgia Southern.
