Volleyball Team Tops in the Nation in Aces; Wagner Nationally Ranked in Two Categories

10/25/06 -- The Long Island University volleyball team is ranked first in the nation in service aces per game and junior Martina Wagner (Friedrichshafen, Germany) is ranked in a pair of categories in the latest release of statistical rankings by the NCAA. The Blackbirds average 2.66 aces per game as a team. American is second with 2.57 aces per game.

Wagner is ranked second in the country in aces per game, averaging 0.82. North Texas’ Brooke Engle is the leader, averaging 0.94 aces per contest. Wagner is also ranked 10th in the nation in kills per game. The outside hitter averages 5.25 per game. Kelly-Anne Billingy of Marshall leads the country with an average of 6.41.

Wagner is one of only two players to be ranked in both categories. The other is Tulane’s Sara Radosevic, who ranks ninth in kills per game (5.27) and 10th in aces per game (0.65).

The Blackbirds will hit the road for a pair of matches this weekend, taking on Pittsburgh on Friday, Oct. 27 at 5:00 p.m. before playing Robert Morris on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1:00 p.m.
