10/19/06 --The Long Island University volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (30-13, 30-9, 30-8) win over conference opponent St. Francis (N.Y.) at the Genovesi Center. Junior Martina Wagner (Friedrichshafen, Germany) who entered the game ranked 11th nationally in kills per game, paced the Blackbirds with a game-high 13 kills. She added seven digs and three aces.

Long Island (15-9, 3-0 Northeast Conference) easily took the first game 30-13. In the second stanza, the Blackbirds pulled away, using a huge run while freshman Dunja Milin (Pula, Croatia) was serving to take the game 30-9. In the third game, Long Island again proved to me too much for St. Francis to handle, as the Blackbirds used another big run, this one with sophomore Martina Racic (Pula, Croatia) serving.

The Blackbirds hit .559 for the match, while the Terriers hit -.446. Junior Shelby Heggie (Laramie, Wyo,) tallied 10 kills and four digs. Racic contributed a game-high 13 digs.

The win was the fourth sweep in a row for the Blackbirds, who have yet to lose a single game in a NEC contest.

The Terriers dropped to 0-17 (0-3); the loss was the 57th straight for St. Francis.

Long Island will return home to the Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center on Saturday, Oct. 21 when the Blackbirds will host Wagner at 11:00 a.m. and Maine at 3:00 p.m.
