Volleyball Beats Syracuse, 3-0; Improves Winning Streak to Six

11/11/06 -- The Long Island University volleyball wrapped up its regular season slate on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Syracuse at the Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center.

Sophomore Martina Racic (Pula, Croatia) led the Blackbirds with 12 kills on .391 hitting. Junior Shelbie Heggie (Laramie, Wyo.) also hit .391 while registering 10 kills.

After winning the conference regular season championship earlier in the day, LIU jumped out to a quick lead in game one and never looked back. The Orange struggled against a stifling Blackbird defense, hitting just .080 for the match.

Freshman libero Svetlana Simic also had a standout match with a team-high 21 digs.

The Blackbirds will host the NEC tournament on Nov. 18-19 at the Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center. Game times and opponents have yet to be determined.
