Volleyball Drops Third Straight to Texas, 3-0

9/2/06 – Junior Martina Wagner (Friedrichshafen, Germany) recorded her fifth double-double of the season (15 kills, 10 digs) but the Blackbirds dropped their third straight match, 3-0 (30-22, 30-27, 30-18) to No. 8 Texas at the Asics Pepperdine Classic on Saturday night.

Junior Shelby Heggie (Laramie, Wyo.) added nine kills on .391 hitting for LIU.

The Longhorns outhit the Blackbirds, .294 to .100, and took advantage of 11 service errors.

Three Texas players recorded double-digit digs including a game-high 13 by Alyson Jennings. Dariam Acevedo had a team-best 10 kills while Destinee Hooker added nine.

Long Island opens its home schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 6 against NJIT at 6:00 p.m. The match marks the first game the Blackbirds volleyball team will play in the new Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center.
