10/16/06 -- Long Island University’s Martina Wagner (Friedrichshafen, Germany) earned her third Northeast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week Award this season after impressive performances against Quinnipiac and Central Connecticut State. The junior outside hitter averaged 7.0 kills, 2.33 digs and 1.83 aces per game and hit .471 for the week.

Wagner was unstoppable at Quinnipiac, hitting .704 with 21 kills in 27 attempts and only two errors. She also added six digs, four aces and one block in the 3-0 win. In a 3-0 victory over Central Connecticut State, Wagner had another 21 kills, eight digs, seven aces, and one block, while hitting .317.

The Friedrichshafen, Germany native is having an outstanding season this year as she currently leads the league in kills (5.16 kpg/408 overall), service aces (0.73 sapg/58 overall) and points (6.16 ppg/487.0 overall). She also ranks seventh in digs (3.33 dpg/263 overall) and eighth in hitting percentage (.254).

The Blackbirds will play their third-straight road match on Thursday, Oct. 19 when they visit St. Francis (N.Y.) at 7:00 p.m.
