10/23/06 --Long Island University junior outside hitter Martina Wagner (Friedrichshafen,
Germany) garnered her fourth Northeast Conference Player of
the Week honor as announced by the league office today.
Wagner, picking up her second straight weekly accolade, averaged
5.9 kills, 2.5 digs and 1.5 service aces per game, while hitting
.436 for the week. She opened the period hitting .600 with 13
kills, seven digs and three aces in a 3-0 win over St. Francis
(NY).
Wagner posted 21 kills, eight
digs and two aces in a 3-0 triumph over Wagner to stretch LIU’s
league ledger to 4-0. She rounded out the week with her first
career
triple-double in a
3-1 non-conference win over Maine, tallying 25 kills, 10 aces,
10 digs, two blocks and two assists.
The 6-1 Germany native leads the league in kills (5.25 kpg),
service aces (0.82 sapg) and points (6.31 ppg), ranks sixth in
hitting percentage (.274) and seventh in digs (3.24 dpg). Through
NCAA statistics of October 15, Wagner stands third in the nation
in service aces per game and 11th in kills per game.
The Blackbirds, winners of six straight matches, travel to Pittsburgh
on Friday, Oct. 27 for a non-conference showdown with the Panthers.
They step back in the league play on Saturday with a 1:00 contest
at Robert Morris.
