Volleyball Earns AVCA Academic Honor

7/19/07 -- For the second straight season, the Long Island University volleyball team received the Game Plan/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. In order to be eligible for the honor, a team must have a combined grade point average of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. The Blackbirds work in the classroom led to a team GPA of 3.44.

Long Island was one of 55 programs recognized by the AVCA this season, breaking a record for the second season in a row. The Blackbirds won their third consecutive Northeast Conference Championship last season and will seek to defend their title when the 2007 season begins on Aug. 24. Long Island will take on Fairfield as part of the San Diego State Tournament.
