10/8/04 – Senior Ivana Vasiljevic (Brcko, Bosnia & Herzegovina) dished 35 assists and sophomore Dana Demayo (Ra’anana, Israel) pounded 15 kills for Long Island, which had its six-match winning streak halted with a 3-0 setback to Fairfield at the Valley National Bank Knights Classic in Hackensack, N.J.

Vasiljevic completed her double-double by contributing 14 digs and Demayo did likewise with 22. Senior Cristina Pintilie (Cluj Napoca, Romania) pounded 14 kills, junior Melanie Fleig (Villingen, Germany) had 14 digs and junior Adela Igniska (Baia Mare, Romania) added 13.

Despite illness and injuries, LIU (15-5) bravely fought to match the school’s longest winning streak set in 2002. But Fairfield (10-8) set the tone early with 17 kills in game one and committed just four errors in each of the first two games.

Jazmin Pa’akaula posted 11 kills and 17 digs with Casey Machon adding 12 kills for the Stags, who have won eight of their last 10 matches.

LIU continues play at the tournament Saturday against Iona at 9:00 am and Canisius at 3:00 pm.
