Dana Demayo (Ra’anana, Israel),
who been a major factor for Long Island both at the net and
on defense the last
two years, today was named Northeast Conference Volleyball Player
of the Week for the first time.
The reigning NEC Rookie of the Year, Demayo made the Connecticut
Invitational All-Tournament team last week with 42 kills, 69
digs, eight assists, five aces, a block solo and a block assist
to help the Blackbirds go 2-1.
Demayo opened the tournament Friday with 17 kills against Stony
Brook in a 3-1 victory and later in the day notched a career-best
31 digs, one shy of the school record, against Connecticut in
a 3-0 loss.
She closed with 10 kills and 20 digs in the finale Saturday
against Holy Cross in a 3-0 win, earning her second trip on an
all-tournament team this year. Demayo made the all-tournament
squad September 4 at the Sacred Heart Invitational.
Demayo this season is tied for the team lead
with 101 kills and paces the Blackbirds (6-2) with 139 digs.
She is rapidly
approaching the school’s career top 10 list in both categories.
LIU returns to action Friday against North Carolina State at
the Coastal Carolina Classic in Conway, S.C.
