11/1/04 --
Sophomore Dana Demayo (Ra’anana, Israel) had 14 kills and 12 digs with
junior Lizelle Jackson (Palmdale, Calif.) adding 12 and 12 for Long Island, which
notched its school-record eighth straight home victory with a 3-0 (30-8, 30-19,
30-22) Northeast Conference triumph over St. Francis (NY) at Schwartz Center.
The Blackbirds (25-6, 3-1 NEC) left no doubt in game one, notching
a .514 hitting percentage thanks to 19 kills and only one error
late in the game. Jackson and senior Cristina Pintilie (Cluj
Napoca, Romania) pounded five kills with Demayo adding six digs.
The Terriers (1-22, 0-5) had five kills and seven errors in
the game for a -.057 hitting percentage.
Demayo finished with her team-best
21st double-double of the season and Jackson, who closed with
an
impressive .407
hitting percentage,
recorded her 11th. Demayo now has 490 digs this season, four
shy of equaling the school’s single-season record set by
Ivana Vasiljevic (Brcko, Bosnia & Herzegovina) two seasons
ago.
Jade Gold (Jupiter, Fla.) pounded 11 kills, fellow junior Adela
Igniska (Baia Mare, Romania) dished 14 assists and freshman Jasmine
Perez (Kingwood, Texas) added 12 digs for LIU, which owned a
54-27 kills edge and hit .426.
LIU’s 8-0 home record betters its seven-game winning streak
at Schwartz Center in 2002. It is one victory shy of equaling
the school’s single-season win total at home, set in 2000.
Lydia Ann Harris posted 12 kills
and Megan Lundquist dished 22 assists
for St. Francis
(NY). LIU,
winners of four straight, hosts Wagner on Thursday for
a 7:00 pm first serve.
